By Phiz. From Little Dorrit by Dickens
Charlie and I have developing quite the relationship.
In French prison, you get wine?
I just finished watching the BBC’s series Little Dorrit, based off of the same novel by Charles Dickens. One of the best series I have ever seen. So many emotions, such great characters, such a winding plot! Loved it. And John, the little fellow in the top right picture, totally stole my heart with his tragic hero ways. Just all-around a great mini-series. If you love that time period, some romance, and some humor (and of course, some classic Dickens moments), then be sure to check out Little Dorrit.
The BBC’s adaptation of Great Expectations stripped the heart out of Charles Dickens, screenwriter Andrew Davies has said.
Mr Davies, who wrote the BBC’s acclaimed adaptations of Bleak House and Little Dorrit, says the Christmas adaptation “didn’t feel like Dickens” because it lacked humour.
The popular myth that Dickens’s novels are all so long because he was “paid by the word” is not really accurate. Dickens was not paid by the word. Rather, he was paid by installment.
I love this theme, but it’s so hard to find online, so I thought I’d share it with everyone! Enjoy!
